02 — Lens technology

What the lens
does to light.

A blue-light lens is a filter. The one claim we make is transmission — how much light gets through, wavelength by wavelength.

Our stock blue-light lens carries a rare-earth additive, which gives the blank a light amber-tea tint. If you need a clear lens instead, the same band can be addressed with a reflective coating — see the coating options below. The effect shows up in the transmission curve below: a hard cut below 400 nm, a graded slope across 400–500 nm, and near-full transmission above.

UV CUT
Below 400 nm both curves drop to roughly 0 %T — UV is absorbed by the lens material, not by the tint.
400–450 nm
This is where the two curves separate. At 450 nm our lens sits near 55 %T against 90 %T for a standard clear lens — about a third less high-energy blue light reaching the eye.
ABOVE 500 nm
89–95 %T. Colour rendering and contrast stay essentially unchanged, so the lens is usable all day rather than as a night-only tint.

Non-prescription. Sold as an optical filter, not a medical device. No therapeutic or disease-prevention claim is made or implied.

COATING OPTIONS

Coatings we apply in-house

Coating is specified per order and quoted with the lens — mix them on the same job, and tell us the combination when you send the model list.

AR / OAR

Anti-reflective (AR / OAR)

Multilayer coating on both surfaces. It suppresses the light that reflects off the back of the lens and scatters toward the eye — the ghosting and veiling glare an uncoated lens shows. Transmission rises, contrast reads cleaner, and the lens sits almost invisible in the frame.

HYDROPHOBIC / OLEOPHOBIC

Hydrophobic & oleophobic

Water beads and oil wipes off in one pass instead of smearing. Fewer wipes means fewer micro-scratches, so the surface stays optically clean for longer and the coating lasts.

BLUE-LIGHT COATING

Blue-light reflective

A multilayer coating that reflects part of the 400–450 nm band instead of absorbing it in the substrate. Nothing is dyed into the blank, so the lens stays clear — no amber tint, no colour shift looking through it. We also tint blanks if you want the absorption route; say which when you send the model list.

How orders run

A

Stock styles, short runs

Order any model from the catalogue from 300 pcs. Mixed colours within one style are accepted, and mixed models can be packed into one carton.

B

Your logo, your packaging

Temple printing, lens etching, cases, pouches and retail boxes. Send artwork and we confirm the print position and packaging spec before production.

C

Development from a sample

Send a drawing or a physical sample and we quote tooling, MOQ and lead time for a new mould. Existing moulds can be modified for colour and hardware.

INVOICE & PACKING LIST
Issued with every shipment, with the carton breakdown by model.
CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN
On request, for markets and buyers that need it for clearance.
